Basra and Sulaymaniyah are joining the Doha-based carrier’s network in Iraq, raising its destinations in the country to five.

Qatar Airways will fly direct four times a week on both new routes, with the Doha service starting on June 3 and Sulaymaniyah joining the roster on August 20.

An A320 will fly on both services, with 12 business class and 132 economy class seats.

The carrier’s Iraq operations began last summer with flights to Baghdad and Erbil, followed in January by a service to Najaf.

CEO Akbar Al Baker said Qatar Airways has been working with authorities to open up services.

“Qatar Airways is offering new travel options to the people of Iraq and for those involved in the reconstruction efforts of the country,” he said
